Spotlight Artist: Emma Coombes

Emma Coombes creates her own road map now

Have you ever gotten into your car and tried to drive somewhere blindfolded?

I certainly hope not! But sometimes, we do the equivalent in our lives as artists.

If we want to get to where we *really* want to go, we need to do two things: Identify where exactly that is… And make a map to get there.

Artist Emma Coombes is sitting proudly in the driver's seat of her life now, but she didn't always feel that way.

Before joining the Become Internationally Known program, Emma was at a crossroads - tired of pouring her energy into traditional employment, she had a million different interests and ideas… But wasn't sure how to bring them together.

After seven months in the program, Emma has a clear path ahead of her. She has created a website for her art, a solo exhibition, participated in her first press interview, and just sold the first painting she’s made in twenty years.

What helped her move forward?

Having to define her goals and create a unique roadmap to help her get there. The Become Internationally Known curriculum helped her stay on track and lay the foundation for real change.

“You really need to think about what you want seriously and seek to make that work for you, not to fit someone else… It doesn’t always look like I planned, but… when opportunity knocks, I’m ready for it.

This is the foundation I am laying. All the small things, the administration, the business side of things, the nice to haves, the new connections. It takes time, but I’m seeing the payoff. You have to show up for yourself and I actually am.” - Emma Coombes
